YZ Choppa is a familiar face to the UNDRGRND Universe. First making his appearance inside Issue 9: “Fourth Quarter,” YZ has assimilated quickly into our underground hip-hop scene. He’s a natural networker and has an image and sound that other artists are drawn to. A Santa Barbara local, YZ has made himself visible within the community of other UNDRGRND favs out in SB — DG, Kilo Tae, amongst others.

YZ Choppa has been making music for nearly eight years, crediting A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye as his major music influences. Recently however, he has placed more emphasis on landing live performances. The Sagittarius has rocked the stage multiple times now with Breaking Sound LA, and even opened in March 2024 for 310babii at Downtown Ventura’s “The Six Social House.” YZ’s discography is particularly favorable for live shows — his high energy flows match his hyped activity and crowd control capabilities.

May 2023 saw the release of YZ Choppa’s debut full-length project — “WHOISYZ?” — a 19-track album featuring DJK, JNUG, Hayes, and Marco Javier. A rarer and rarer phenomenon, YZ produces and engineers most of his music himself, demonstrated constantly throughout “WHOISYZ?”. The freshman tape was followed up by one of YZ’s most popular singles to date, “TAKEOVER,” dropped in December of that year.

Away from the mic, YZ tells us he enjoys cooking and working out in his free time. His favorite album of all time is J Cole’s “4 Your Eyez Only” (2016), and he shouts out Las Vegas as his go-to vacation spot.
