Big Dub

UNDRGRND Issue 3 “Scenes Collide”

Although he spent his college years in Maine, the 5-foot-8-inch Big Dub is a Ventura native to the bone. The Buena High School alum has been rapping for about six years, but burst onto UNDRGRND’s radar towards the end of 2020 after we met him through Record X Studios head engineer Mind Off (Alec Bertrand).

Big Dub never performed for a crowd prior to the pandemic, but showed his post-COVID confidence at his first show — the UNDRGRND Magazine Issue 3 Release Event. His clever bars and friendly energy is eye-catching on and off the stage, and he has the impressive music catalog to go with it. In Sept. 2020, the Virgo dropped his first studio project, The Life of Big Dub, a six-track debut piece featuring Mind Off. Less than a year later, he followed with DUB SZN — the EP’s name was suggested to him by fellow Issue 3 artist Luey of Newbury Park. The project is six tracks, and includes a feature from rising Oxnard rapper L.I.R.A.

Away from creating music, Big Dub enjoys studying cyber security, barbecuing, and playing video games. He is known in the local food community for his famous home recipe shrimp kabobs.

“I play video games here and there. I love cooking, barbecuing. My buddies come over, we love making shrimp kabobs, we’ve been doing that pretty recently — it's a lot of prepping but it’s worth it. And you know, playing some pool, just hanging out. Hanging out with my family and friends, and that’s about it.”
