UNDRGRND Issue 7: "Scenes Collide: Part 2"

Meet Fl!p, a 29-year-old rapper reppin' Bakersfield, Calif. The Aries was born in the Philippines, and relocated to "The Field" while in elementary school. Fl!p holds the title of being the first from the 661 to land a cover spot in UNDRGRND Magazine. The Kern County city is home to over 400,000 people, but its history in mainstream rap culture runs thin. Still, The Field's underground scene is hot, with artists like Joe Maynor, Runitup Jaybo, and others leading the modern movement.

Fl!p has been making music for almost five years, and is the co-founder of the music branch of Bakersfield collective, FOE ("Family Over Everything"). He credits P-Lo, J. Cole, & YG as his biggest music influences, and tells UNDRGRND that performing at MacG Day at The Encore is his most notable career move to date. Fl!p released his most recent track, "Hold Up" in Dec. 2022, and hints at a debut project on the horizon in 2023.

In his free time, Fl!p enjoys outdoor sports & activities, and points to AMC's "The Walking Dead" as his all-time favorite TV show. Fl!p is a genuine guy with surprising vocal versatility. From Juice WRLD-like melodies to club bangers (check out his 2020 single "Dummy", if you're tryna turn up), Fl!p is proving that he and his city are worth paying attention to.

“My turnaround in the studio is pretty fast because I feel it, you know? I really feel that shit.”
