CharQoal

UNDRGRND Issue 3 “Scenes Collide”

Representing his home country of Nigeria, CharQoal first came to UNDRGRND’s attention around the 2020 release of his most popular track, “Fire in My Soul.” An excellent performer, the 32-year-old demands the attention of any crowd he steps in front of, often bringing with him an unusual display of theatrics—a flamethrower guitar, his own microphone, fireworks, smoke props, and his fan-beloved dog, “Baretta.”

CharQoal also impresses UNDRGRND for his ability to consistently drop industry-quality songs with music videos. In 2021 so far, the Los Angeles City College Film & Television Production graduate has premiered the high-energy tracks “Time to Change,” “Rula,” and “FWMH.”

If his music wasn’t enough, the currently Santa Monica-living artist is exceptionally charismatic and outgoing, and brings a smile to anyone in the music game who he works with. In his free time, CharQoal dabbles in food delivery to make some extra cash, and enjoys watching That ‘70s Show and Moesha. He shouts out The Script, Lauryn Hill, and Killarmy as his biggest music influences, and says The Great Western Forum in Inglewood, Calif. is his ultimate dream performance venue.

“I need to get on a stage, because that’s what’s gonna separate me from other artists. I want to go perform where people appreciate what I’m doing, because I know I put my heart and my energy into what I do.”
