Deezy

Issue 12

Hometown: Rosedale, NY

Representing the great state of New York, Deezy joins the cover of UNDRGRND Issue 12 as our first ever artist from Queens. The singer and rapper has been making music professionally for three years, shouting out Jay-Z, Usher, Chris Brown, and J. Cole as his mainstream inspos.

Deezy graduated from Bayside High School in NYC, where he recalls performing at an open mic assembly for the first time in front of others.

"I was nervous because I'm the football guy, right?" Deezy said. "So damn it, I'm like Troy Bolton at this point. I'm singing a song by Masego and I was nervous, but I heard the reaction of the crowd and I heard how everybody was rocking with it, so I did my thing."

After high school, Deezy relocated to none other than 'The 805' to attend Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA. Since moving, Deezy has stayed in SoCal, finding his footing not only in the music game, but with 'The Cause International' (TCI), a non-profit founded in 2017 by Antoine Taylor aimed at fostering a sense of purpose and community amongst youth all over the world.

TCI's most popular attraction — the 'What's Your Cause Tour' (WYCT) — involves Deezy, Antoine, and TCI staff traveling to high schools, motivating teens through high-energy hip-hop performances and inspiring guest speakers. Deezy officially joined the TCI team in 2022, and is now not only the President of the WYCT, but the official host/MC and headlining act of the show. This past summer, the WYCT embarked on a 11 high school tour, hitting Georgia, Maryland, D.C., New Jersey, and New York.

“That was my first tour, it was fire," Deezy said. "I don't think it sunk in until when we were on the road and around our team, cramped up in the car or in the Airbnb, at the hotels, and figuring things out each day. That made it real, being out there in the field with your team and your soldiers made us feel like, oh yeah, we're really doing something. You saw the reciprocation with the kids and with the music afterwards.”

In July 2024, Deezy dropped his new single — "Soft Girl Summer" accompanied by a live mic performance inside the UNDRGRND Studios. Stream "Soft Girl Summer" now and check out Deezy inside UNDRGRND Isse 13, coming next month!

"I appreciate all of my supporters thus far and everything we've been creating. I'm heavy on building horizontally with the people around me and my team. So every time you guys come to a show, you stream the music, you repost, you make a video, you shout out and you're there physically, it means the world to me."
