Kareema

UNDRGRND Issue 4 “Sin City”

Representing her home state of New York, Kareema Walters resettled in Las Vegas during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Long Island native is a talented R&B singer, bringing a soft but refreshing melodic vibe to the UNDRGRND universe.

Inspired by the likes of Janet Jackson, Ashanti, Beyoncé, and Whitney Houston, Kareema’s strength is in writing powerful love songs. Her lyrics teach her listeners to be both confident and respectful in romantic relationships, while also touching the themes of self-love, healing, and nostalgia.

Kareema began studying the technical and industry sides of music while in college. “I was taking music classes and pre recording myself and doing projects,” she says. “It helped me study the background of the music business.”

In December 2020, Kareema dropped her debut EP Revamp, a seven-track ode dedicated to breaking out of your shell and adding rejuvenated energy into your life. Most of the tape was recorded in New York, Kareema told UNDRGRND. The project has four impressive music videos to go with it, all located on Kareema’s YouTube channel.

Outside of the studio, Kareema works in health care. She enjoys cooking salmon and making smoothies, and says fellow Issue 4 cover artist, Nidia Martinez, would be her first pick for a Vegas music collaboration. The 26 year old is also an above average dancer, proven by her performance at the “Sin City” release event in August 2021.

“Las Vegas is integrated with everyone, from everywhere. And that's what makes it interesting to tune into.”
