Knotti

UNDRGRND Issue 3 “Scenes Collide”

Hailing out of Atlanta, Ga., Knotti (real name “Marvin Cook”) brought the South’s melodic trap energy to “The 805” when he moved to Ventura at the start of high school. The 28-year-old has been making music for about five years, and stands out in the local scene for his smooth flow and emotionally charged songwriting. UNDRGRND was first put on to Knotti through his good friend and Issue 1 artist KollegeKado — the two also have music together.

Knotti is fresh off the release of his most recent project, the six-track “Just For You,” which officially dropped on Aug. 7, 2021. The album stood out to UNDRGRND for its high-quality production and thought-provoking lyrics.

Away from music, Knotti is an entrepreneur and business owner in the trucking industry. His favorite TV show is “One Piece,” favorite movie is “The Wood,” and says Carl’s Jr. is his go to food spot. He is also friends with rising Ventura rapper Riiicobandz, who Knotti says is his dream feature from “The Five.”

The Cancer grew a lot since his initial involvement with UNDRGRND around the end of 2020. Those close to Knotti can see his confidence as a rapper both in the booth and on a stage. He is easy to work with and brings a unique energy to a group setting. His stage name comes from the nickname his grandma used to call him, as he recalls having “nappy hair and that used to ball up in a lil’ knot” as a child.

“I’ve found myself, so I can be better for other people. I can show and tell people the stuff I went through and hopefully it helps somebody whenever, wherever. I’m not a victim, I’m a survivor.”
