Luey

UNDRGRND Issue 3 “Scenes Collide”

Luey is undoubtedly one of the fan-favorites we’ve had in UNDRGRND’s history. The Cancer hails out of Newbury Park, Calif., and has been consistently dropping music since his high school days. He impressed the UNDRGRND team because of his ability to use his distincively deep voice to expand out of just the traditional rap and hip-hop genres — if you don’t believe me, listen to his 2021 track “One Day.”

Luey spent some time as a member of the talented 805-based rap group 13106, but has since left to build his solo career. He is very active on social media, and is consistent with his music drops. He released his most recent project, the 10-song It’ll Get Better in 2020, and hints at another full-length project by the end of 2021. Luey told UNDRGRND that the artists he finds the most inspiration from are those excelling in the local music community, such as “Pofsky, Deo Cane, Kid Chxp, Caspa G, and Bryce Ayers.”

Away from the booth, he enjoys playing Poker (“it’s good for your brain, you’re always thinking ahead”), Texas Holdem, and Chess, and is also an avid Avatar: The Last Airbender fanatic. Recently, Luey found a unique way to bring eyes and attention to his social media content and music — the Newbury Park High School graduate began releasing sandwich reviews on Instagram and TikTok. As of today, Jimmy John’s has received the lowest score of 6.4, while The Sandwich Spot leads the way with an unprecedented 8.7. Most nights a week you can find Luey at his “normal job” at the popular Thousand Oaks bar, The Tipsy Goat.

“I love the attention. I’m pretty introverted, but once I get on that stage and have a mic in my hand, I’m a whole different person. It’s weird.”
