Pofsky

UNDRGRND Issue #1 “The 805”

Pofsky is a hip-hop artist representing Newbury Park, California. At age 24, the Cancer began his music journey over 10 years ago, gaining popularity throughout his high school community under the stage name “M.I.C.” (or “Music Is Crucial”). During his young adult life, he gained experience throwing and hosting his own shows, organizing producers and engineers for his early projects, and slowly learning the ropes of the music industry.

Entering his 20s, Pofsky found momentum in his career in a multitude of unique ways. As he developed more confidence in his pure voice, the rapper gravitated towards a melodic style, adding an unexpected RnB element to his music. Second, he officially switched his stage name to “Pofsky,” embracing his government surname. In April 2019, Pofsky dropped his most recent album to date, the 11-track RHYTHM.I.C., followed by a self-organized East Coast tour with radio interviews and performance stops in Boston and New York City.

Later that year, Pofsky played a vital role in launching UNDRGRND Magazine, a hip-hop magazine based out of Ventura County. He was featured as a “must watch” artist in the inaugural issue of the magazine, and is now a co-owner of the media company. He fills UNDRGRND’s needs as an A&R, event coordinator, and financier.

Pofsky’s most notable music moment came in May 2021, with the release of his hit single, “Piece of Me,” featuring Compton’s “hidden gem” Chris O’Bannon. The track has amassed over 15k streams on Spotify, and has a music video to go with it.

“Building your fan base is the most difficult part of [being an up-and-coming rapper], among anything else. It takes a tremendous amount of next-level energy. It has to be a whole different type of mentality and work ethic...most people you see don’t have it.”
