UNDRGRND Issue 3 “Scenes Collide”

For the first time in UNDRGRND’s history, we are proud to feature a house/EDM disc jockey. The house world in “The 805” is still in its early stages, putting Oxnard’s Roger Wayne in a perfect spot to be a true pioneer in the scene.

The 24-year-old is relatively new to making music, fully diving into the craft about three years ago. His interest in producing was birthed after his lifelong passion for baseball came to a close following a severe back injury—he was a talented ball player who even received a scholarship to play for the University of San Diego.

In the past few years, Wayne has found a niche in the local music community through releasing a plethora of eye-catching remixes, including remixes to songs by Justin Timberlake, SVM, and Jomanda. He has also become a must-see performer at UNDRGRND concerts, where is vocaless sets manifest the perfectly chill and relaxed vibe that all great house artists aim to give their audiences.

Outside of creating tracks, the avid anti=Dodgers fan enjoys kicking it with his puppy “Bucket,” listening to RnB, and seshing with the gang. He is also currently on the baseball coaching staff at Westlake High School.

“My body is starting to break down and deteriorate. I had L5S1 back surgery. My disc slipped and the jelly that’s in the disc is like, leaked. It was so hard leaving baseball, but going into this music thing literally saved me.”
