Sitting On Stacy & Strange Case (a quick word from Andrew)
UNDRGRND Magazine | by Andrew Mason | March 30th, 2023
Join me in welcoming Strange Case, the five-man group with strong ties to the 805. Led by Newbury Park, Calif. front runners Mikey Netka (vocals) and Zane Vandevort (lead guitar), this "surf n turf" style band captures the modern beach-pop sound effortlessly.
Strange case was making big noise when we first started UNDRGRND, with clips of house party shows in Isla Vista going viral weekend after weekend.
It reminded me of the high energy & no f**ks attitude of the XXXTentacion or even Lil Pump eras of the sound cloud days in rap. Strange Case's hit single "27 Club" broke them into proven popularity, with the track hitting over 1.2 million (yes, million) streams on Spotify to date. With the clean additions of Finn Bennett (drums), Andrew Naranjo (guitar), and Griffen Scott (guitar), Strange Case is in the best shape they've been in since the pandemic started.
Reppin' similar roots, Sitting on Stacy has made waves in the contemporary rock scene on their own merit. Now signed to Republic Records, the trio of Thousand Oaks' natives has toured alongside the Jonas Brothers, playing across the United States & even in Mexico City.
Hoyt Yeatman (vocals), Kyle Hart (guitar), & Trevor Smith (drums) found ground as a group while attending San Diego State University. They quickly gained clout online through impressive Tik Tok remixes, a clean sound and image, and a budding fan base. Sitting on Stacy has a solid foundation & a legitimate team behind them. Add in the mainstream cosigns, and Sitting on Stacy has maybe the highest ceiling of any group coming out of the 805 or San Diego area right now.
